2024 has been a rough year in my writing life. I had high hopes of focusing on my writing, but my life had some chaos mixed in that I was not anticipating. That is why a few weeks ago when I received The Artist’s Way Toolkit by Julia Cameron I knew God was talking to me.
This last year, I had lost my passion for writing. I was bombarded with negative thoughts, a chaotic home, things that were not happening in a good timeframe that worked. My life became messy. I just shut down. It became too much.
Many years ago I read Julia Cameron’s book The Artist Way. I loved it. I still love it. Hidden away in one of my three bookshelves it sits. This new one will be stored beside it. Her books are great reference books to help you be inspired and focused on anything creative in your life.
There are several aspects to her toolkit. They are in both of her books, well many of her books. The tools are: Morning pages, Artist dates, walking, and Guidance.
Morning pages are spent every morning before you start your day writing three pages. The goal is to get out all of your thoughts. All of them must come out of your head so that you can be focused on your actual goals for the day. I have not figured out how to have artist dates being homebound from my chronic illness, but one day I will figure this out.
Guidance is something I have done my entire life. I have always asked God for guidance and to show me. He has done this for me many times.
Anyway, if you want to be inspired and get started on your own creative endeavors, whether drawing, web design, writing, or anything else. This is a great book to guide you to be the best you can be.
I won this book from Good Reads. The opinions I express are my own.
