I just finished a great novel by Susie Finkbeiner about two friends that will touch your heart and teach you about how to treat people and how judgmental and cruel people can be when they just assume things without the facts just because they are afraid. It also teaches us women about women’s history and how we weren’t allowed to play sports anywhere and were treated poorly if we desired to.
This is about Bertha and Flossie. Flossie wanted to play professional baseball, so did Bertha, but Bertha’s father ended up being accused of being part of the communist party during the McCarthy reign of horror and questions that were disgusting and cruel and destroyed a lot of lives. Personally, I saw a bit of this happening again during the Ukraine and Russian conflict/war/violence that is happening now. Just because someone is from that country or has that heritage doesn’t make them a terrible person. Just because the leader of the country is a stinker doesn’t mean the actual citizens are stinkers. I have always thought assumptions destroys lives and this story illustrates this. Because I want to encourage people to read, I am not going to tell you the entire story because you will enjoy it as much as I will is all that I will tell you. It is worth reading, in my opinion.
