It feels good to get back to reading again. My latest novel I finished is one I have been waiting to read since January. The Spanish Daughter by Lorena Hughes was part of the Once Upon A Book Club experience in January and I was excited to get it, but I had a huge pile of books to get through before I could read this. I finally got to it 8 months later.
I loved it. It is a historical read set in Ecuador and France on a Cocao plantation. It also deals with different time periods for this heroine of the story. It also deals with father and daughter relationships and the pain of being abandoned and rejected. Powerful story. Powerful characters who you can feel their trauma and pain and even sometimes your anger towards them. Hughes writing is simple, but elegant with power and I love the descriptive words she choses to use throughout the book. When I started this book I had a hard time putting it down. Not very many books do this, but this one did.
