I am familiar with grieving. I started the grieving process when my birth mom passed away when I was 13 years old. Then a lot of deeply traumatic changes started happening in my life and it has not changed since then. So when I offered a chance to read Rachel Held Evans sister book about her grieving process. Yes, I used to read Rachel’s blog. I miss her. She was a powerful writer and guess what so is her sister. I felt a kindred spirit in Opelt. I loved her raw honesty. Her willingness to be open and real about her pain, sorrow, grief, and the rituals she used to start moving through her grief and pain. I also love that she is a history buff and wanted to know the stories behind why these rituals were done. I found the bee chapter super fascinating. I did not know bee could smell grief and sadness. Who would have thought that? Wow! How cool is that!
Right now, as I am fighting my own body and grieving the losses of my abilities this book has come in handy. Slowing down, allowing myself the chance to grieve and doing things in a ritual form I can see can help me walk through this. Thank you Amanda Held Opelt for offering that permission to do so. This is a great book for anyone who is suffering grief from a death of a loved one, miscarriage, or any health issue you may be suffering yourself. This is a great resource.
