I read an entire novel while going through my 9 hour infusion. I read We Are Not LIke Them by Christine Pride and Jo Piazza. This is a powerful and insightful book dealing with race relations between whites and blacks. I am not going to spoil the story. It makes you think and consider every angle of the issue. There is more than one angle. Neither side is wrong, neither side is right, both of us could do better. We could communicate with each other better and actually share our stories and actually listen to each other instead of standing there pointing fingers. I know I could listen. They are correct, I do not know what it is like to be judged by my skin color. I do know what it is like to be judged though. I’m judged daily because of my disability and so I can empathize and have compassion towards those who are judged for their skin color. It is wrong. We all have to admit that. I am glad that this book is written. I am letting anyone who is out there who wants to talk about race and our relationships to feel free to send me a message and lets talk about it with empathy, kindness, and compassion. I want to know your story. I want to give you kindness and respect. I have no answer to the dilemma of what to do to change the policies or why we all allow fear to win over love. Even the bible says there is no fear in love and yet he we are allowing fear to dictate our we treat each other. That hurts my heart. I am going to choose to use my voice to promote love, respect, and kindness all parts of the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians Five. How about you?
