I come from a family of farmers. Farmers have been a part of my ancestry. I love how my hands feel in dirt and watching my house plants grown. Last year I purchased these mini pots grow kits and saved them for a time when I had more energy. Yesterday, I spent time getting them ready and planted the seeds. They are on my table. I’m anxiously waiting for them to sprout and become plants. When “The Rooted Life” by Justin Rhodes came in my mailbox I was excited to dive into this book about starting a homestead. There are amazing photographs of the entire process the Rhodes family went through to get their farm to table life. If I did not have my health issues, living with a trach tube and in a wheelchair, I would be starting my own homestead. I would be wearing overalls and a fun sun hat. Container gardens are a problem for me because of having to step over a threshold step to get onto my back patio. I may just have a small in my kitchen container, this book has inspired me to explore what I can do in my apartment. That I am worth the investment and time to grow my own herbs and to maybe grow lettuce or something small. We shall see what my creative mind can come up with.
Anyone who is interested in having a homestead or a garden of their own or chickens may want to invest in this book. The Rhodes give a step-by-step guide with some great tips. Like planning on paper before you even start plowing the land. Or if you are like me and want a beautiful book to flip through and dream then this is the book for you.
