I grew up hating my body. I was bigger than most girls. Not only did I weigh more but I was also taller. A lot of my friends felt that way about themselves. In Katie Sturino’s book Body Talk she talks about body shame and the unrealistic expectations from the beauty industry and fashion industry on women’s bodies. I saw Sturino interviewed on Maria Shrivers Youtube channel, and I knew that I wanted to read her book. She is not the only author I felt that way about after watching Shriver interview them.

I love how this book is bright, bold, and blunt. I’m a blunt person so I appreciate that in others and books that I read. Sturino also shares her great sense of humor too. There are also some great journal prompts throughout this book. It is a great read. If I had a daughter or maybe even my nieces I will or would share this book with them and then have a discussion about it. I think it is time that women stop being toxic with each other and body shame each other over beauty standards that are unrealistic and unhealthy. I love the sentiment of Sturino and that her goal for her body is to be healthy. That is my goal for my body. If you read Body Talk what did you think and did this book help you view your body differently and respect your body?
