I’m sitting on my bed listening to some classical music with Nicholas, my big furry cat by my side. Nothing feels more comforting than evenings like this especially with all the emotional and physical violence going on in the world lately.
Friday night I watched a movie that is one of my favorites Last Holiday with Queen Latifah and LL COOl J. I love both of these artists and this movie is one of my favorites because it makes you think and it is funny. The premise of the movie is a woman who is conservative, shy, and doesn’t like to take chances gets a terminal illness diagnosis so she cashes in her bonds and such and treats herself to a famous resort that only rich people go to and a famous chef cooks at. Georgia, the character loves cooking and dreams of having her own restaurant and has a scrapbook called possibilities. I’ve watched this movie several times and it always makes me laugh and smile, but this time it punched me in the heart.
Here is why it punched me in the heart: I have lived my whole life in a protective box. I never partied, did drugs, jumped out of airplanes, or anything too crazy because I have felt like I needed to protect myself and I had fears of so many things. Watching Georgia decide to do the things she has been putting into her possibilities book made me think about my own possibilities. What would I like to do now that my eyes are a bit open? Here is a short list of what I will aim to do.
- Write more snail mail cards to family, friends, doctors, nurses, drivers, and so on who help me live well.
- Spend time writing thank you email to those who have blogs and YouTube videos that makes me laugh, educate, and inspire me to be better.
- Listen to music and dance more.
- Laugh more
- Buy myself flowers more often
These are just a few things I want to do more in my life. I am sure there will be more things added to the list as I think about it.
What would you like to do more of?
