Fear, every single human alive whether male or female, black, white, Native American, Asian, Arabian, or Spanish experience fear. Fear is in our DNA. There is healthy fear and then there is fear that is not healthy and many of us live in the unhealthy fear that stops us from achieving what God called us to be. In Isaiah God tells us not to fear because he is with us. In fact, I believe there are 50 verses that tell us not to fear.
While reading Joyce Meyer’s newest book “Do It Afraid” she writes on this subject. As always her no nonsense approach to the subject of fear is blunt, real, authentic, and full of Godly wisdom that we all need to hear.
What did I get out of reading Meyer’s book I was reminded of several scriptures that inspire me to go beyond fear and remember that all things are possible with God. He has my back. I was reminded that changing the way we think about things rewires our brain and makes us more courageous and brave with God than staying stuck in the mindset of fear.
I know a few of my believing friends have no respect for Joyce Meyers and her books. They have their reasons, but I am going to tell you why I find value in her teachings. She is authentic and I can tell she dives deep into the word with Greek and Hebrew to get to the heart of what scripture is trying to teach us. She has had experience with deep rooted pain and how God has lifted her out of that pain and showed her how to live well despite the horrible abuses she endured. She admits when she is wrong. And she is open and honest about how she spends her ministries money.
Fear is a big thing in the chronic illness community and I think Do It Afraid will give inspiration and wisdom in how to live well and be able to move through your fear.
