I have been thinking suffering for awhile. I saw T.D Jakes interviewed by Jenna Bush on the Today show and I thought I’d like to read his book. Soon after, I was offered an opportunity to do just that.
Jakes using the vine to illustrate a lot about why we go through the process of crushing also known as suffering. I appreciate this illustration because it made so much more sense to me. In gardening, you prune your plants while at the same time you water and nurture them to grow. You start them out as seeds and the gardener lovingly and with painstaking care prunes and helps them to keep on growing. Jesus is our vine dresser. He is our vine and we are his branches.
As someone who suffers daily with a chronic illness that literally takes her breath away I understand suffering and it took me a long time to accept that this was part of the process of growing. This is my process of growing and growing towards Jesus. I think other chronic illness sufferers would appreciate this book and the lessons that J.D. Jakes writes about. Jakes also with authenticity shares his own suffering. I respect that.
