I just graduated from high school when Forest Gump hit the movie theaters. It touched my heart deeply. I also have heard and saw videos of Gary Sinise and his valiant efforts to help Veterans get the help and respect they need to live well. In Sinise new book Grateful American he tells his life story and how he become the man that he is today.
One part of his story that hit home for me was handling and living with an alcoholic. You love them, but you don’t know what to do if they are not taking care of themselves or your children. Sinise, courageously, made the choice to live his wife for a time while she went through rehab and counseling for her addiction. I was happy to see that his wife chose to get the help she needed and that they are still married and living well.
I was also struck by Sinise compassion for the wounded veterans, including keeping tabs on them, starting a band and touring, and starting and helping foundations to help them succeed despite their disabilities. I love that.
