I apology for not being able to show a picture of Engraved on the Heart, unfortunately when I received this book it was damaged. The post office sent a note saying, sorry for the damage to your package. Although, the outside of this book is damaged I still found value in its contents. I love historical novels. Getting lost in a story from another place and another time period intrigues me and that is exactly what I found in Tara Johnson’s book Engraved on the Heart.
Engraved on the Heart is a story from the Civil War era, and it is from the perspective of a young girl who is fighting an illness and also found herself fighting for another, who were slaves and not considered human beings. Johnson did a great job in her descriptions and tone of the book. I got hooked by the first chapter and I had a hard time putting it down.
I felt a kindred spirit with Keziah Montgomery in fighting her illness and not being taken seriously because of it. One aspect that I felt the most connected to was her fighting and stubborn spirit. Being a strong woman is not very often portrayed during this time period and I appreciate that Johnson wrote on strong women. I won’t ruin the story for you, you just have to read it. I recommend this book.
