I cannot imagine starting my own business and having it last several generations, but that is exactly what happened in Cal Turner Jr. legacy. In “My Father’s Business” we go on a journey with Cal Turner Jr through his grandfather and fathers and then Turner and his brothers journey through owning, operating, and starting Dollar General.
What I found the most intriguing was the relationship aspect of how each of these mean related to their customers, employees, and their family. Each one had their own style and each one did something to enhance the business. Some of the moves were gutsy and produce a great income for them and sometimes it didn’t. Leadership takes commitment, honesty, and a willingness to open up and build relationship.
This would be a great book for someone who wants to start their own business.
