Beauty, this is a hard word for me to comprehend and to accept for myself. Beauty has eluded me. That is how I feel about it. The normal girl things like wearing make-up, fancy designed shoes and clothes, jewelry has never been a big part of my life. Yes, I do I have an appreciation for them, but I don’t need an over abundance of them. I also feel that if my home is clean and i have things that I love then I am doing well. Reading Trina McNeilly’s book La la Lovely about creating beauty I am reminded that I have my own beauty inside and that at times I can be creative. We women like to have everything cookie cutter perfect, from our hair, make-up, homes, and kids that we don’t consider that each one of us has been created differently so we can enhance the beautiful world around us. Here is what I find beautiful that God created. Peonies, lilacs, poppies, camelias, daffodils, tulips, roses, most of the flowers all over the world that God created for us to smell and to enjoy. I love discovering recently that I can smell peonies. With a trach, I can’t smell much unless it is stinky garbage. I also find beauty in trees, cherry trees, jasmine, magnolia trees, evergreens, willow trees, monkey tree, and of course the maple and oak trees. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we have a ton of gorgeous trees all around us. Water, from the lakes, to the rivers, and to the ocean, the sparkling water that cools my feet whenever I get a chance to dunk my feet into them. I also love watching the water fowl, the otters, and the ducks and geese enjoy the water. My cat Nicholas is beautiful. I enjoy watching him chase his buddy George around his fish tank, although, George doesn’t think it is that much fun. I aim to live like Trina McNeilly and start noticing the beauty that is all around me. How about you?

By the way, this book is lovely. The thick pages, gorgeous pictures, and the short chapters make it fun and wonderful to read.
