This year I have been focusing on rebuilding many aspects of my life. I felt God call me to the word rebuild and so I have been intentional about what I am choosing to rebuild. God provided me with a copy of Lisa Bevere’s new book Adamant. Although, adamant isn’t exactly rebuilding, it does lead me to many aspects in my life that I wanted to rebuild. Bevere touches many different subject, such as social media and love and hate. I highly respect Bevere, because I have read several of her books so I was excited when this one came in the mail.
I am in agreement with Bevere when it comes to social media, we spend too much time on her and we are not intentional or thoughtful in our postings on our social media pages. That is why a few years ago I stepped back and decided that I will not rant about every little negative thing that happens to me. And when I do talk about my negative experiences especially when it comes to my health, I will do it in a non victim and positive way. It is possible to do this. I also made the choice to not have Facebook or Twitter on my smart phone. I use it only for texts and phone calls. I like seeing people, talking to them face to face or hearing their voice over the phone. With my trachial stenosis that leaves me with a trach I have to rely on texts now, but I like the connection aspect. Twice a day I intentionally go down to my apartments lobby and use the interent to check email, write my blog posts, and connect on my social media. It isn’t a constant thing. I also made the decision to look at my friends posts and think happy thoughts for them or pray for them and not compare my life with theirs. This one is sometimes harder for me than anything else.
Lisa Bevere has a strong voice, an authentic voice, and a loving voice for us who will listen and heed her wisdom. Although, at times, I had to put the book down and think and process what she is saying because it was hard. I still appreciate that she was willing to be speak truthfully.
If you would like to purchase this book:
In exchange for my review of Lisa Bevere’s book Adamant I was given a free copy from Revell. The opinions I express are my own and I was not influenced.
