My focus word for 2018 is Rebuild, so I was excited when I received Tom Holladay’s book PUtting it Together Again When It’s All Fallen Apart. Several people in my life suggested that read Nehemiah as my Bible Study this year. I’m glad that I received this book with some great insight into reading Nehemiah’s challenge to rebuild Jerusalem.
I appreciate Holladay’s insight in the first step Nehemiah did when he started the process of rebuilding. He mourned the loss and allowed himself to express the loss emotionally and physically. I don’t think I have done that when it has come to my body and my throat. Yet again, a part of my body is not working well again and I have lost my ability to speak. As part of my rebuilding process I’m allowing myself to feel the sadness, the anger, and the hurt that I feel both physically and emotionally. I know from my own experience that many people, including myself don’t allow mourning and being sad for their losses. I’m not going to do that this time. Holladay’s book came at just the right moment that I needed God’s word for my rebuilding process.
