When I was younger I enjoyed reading the stories in the old testament of the Bible. I loved Ester, Hannah, and many others. Recently I was excited to learn that there are writers who write fiction stories about these same characters that I adore. I have read a couple of them. The most recent is Jill Eileen Smith’s A Passionate Hope about Hannah. If you have read the story about Hannah and how she had a hard time getting pregnant and made a deal with God to give God her baby in exchange for not being barren anymore. She ends up having Samuel and she does give him up to Eli. It’s a fascinating and sad story, but it also shows how God uses people to change and grow. This is a great book. Smith is a great writer. I see she has several other books that I will investigate and read.
