In exchange for my honest review of “The IBS Elimination Diet and Cookbook” by Patsy Catsos I was given a free copy from Blogging For Books. The opinions I express are my own and were in no way influenced.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS affects a lot of people in the United States. Recently I wrote an article about it for my friend’s website. She owns a fitness company that works with people with chronic illness issues and she asked me to do research on IBS. That is when this book came in the mail for me to review. God works mysteriously, doesn’t he?
Here is what I love about this book:
- All the great information about IBS even with some people who suffer from this debilitating issue.
- I also love that it explains FODMAP. It gets down to the nitty gritty of what FOD Maps are and why it helps those who have IBS. FODMAP’s from what I understand are foods that contain fermentable, Sorbitol, monosaccharides and polyols. These things affect those with IBS issues badly.
- It also explains how to do an elimination diet safely and how to add things in slowly so that you know what foods trigger IBS issues. She also provides a way to journal.
- There are also recipes that look delicious, even for those who don’t suffer from IBS
- She also has lists of non-FODMOP foods and those who have FODMOP.
The only thing is I wish it had more pictures that went with the recipes, but that isn’t the most important thing. I just like pictures.
I believe this is an excellent book for those who suffer IBS or any of the other issues under the IBS title.
