Choose Joy by Sarah Frankyl and Mary Carver has been on my to read list on Goodreads for quite some time. I was excited when recently I learned that my library would mail books to those who are home bound, so I went shopping for books on their website. I was delighted when I saw that they had Choose Joy available.
I found some awesome, inspiring, and encouraging tidbits to help me with my current struggle of accepting my illness, living with a trach, having mobility issues, and learning who I am despite these things and find joy in this journey of mine.
I saw a lot of things that paralleled my story with Sara’s. One I live with an illness that has some moments that bring me to my knees. I have a breathing issues that causes me to live with a trach for the rest of my life and have surgery ever 3 to 4 months to open up my trachea so I can breathe. I have had to take prednisone and suffer the affects from that drug. But I have also learned to be happy alone, in my apartment with my cat Nicholas and my electric chair Harvey. Like Sara I make intentions and have learned what my body can handle and what it can’t. Making hard choices in a chronic life journey is part of the beauty of it all.
Choose Joy is a book I think every chronically ill person should read and every person who knows or loves someone with an illness.
Thank you Sara for sharing your struggles, joys, and triumphs with the world.
