In exchange for Confessions of a Secular Jesus Follower by Tom Krattenmaker I was given a free copy by Blogging for Books. The opinions I express are my own and I was in no water influenced.
When I received “Confessions of a Secular Jesus Follower” by Tom Krattenmaker I wasn’t exactly sure what I would be reading. I was intrigued. I was willing to read a different approach and understanding of Jesus my Lord and Savior. I’m the type of person who likes to know all sides, such as: Christian VS Non-Christian or Secular, Republican VS Democrat, Conservative VS Liberal, and man VS Woman. It seems to me that we all have rivals. I just read an awesome book about rivals.
As I dove into Krattenmaker’s book I quickly realized that this gentlemen is in the same mind frame as I am. Although, he doesn’t believe in Jesus as the Lord and Savior as I do, he still has respect for him. He approaches him differently. Saw things in a different light. A light that I must confess most Christians need to consider.
Here are 2 things that I found compelling in Krattenmaker’s book”
- People on Earth have this mentality of them VS us. It is scary on how much we few others as evil, bad, stupid, disgusting, lazy, or any of the negatives we use to describe different sects of people. Krattenmaker uses the point of Jesus telling us to Love our enemies, not just those who have the same view point as us, but the ones who don’t have the same view point. Personally, I like having people in my life who view life from different angles. I refuse to name call, reject, devalue anyone even someone I deem as an enemy.
- All I am going to say is the incarceration nation chapter about the poor is truly eye opening. It is sad really. I will let you read this chapter and see for yourself.
I was surprised that I liked this book. I’m glad that I took the time to read it and not give into my judgement by the title. It is truly a jewel in a rough package.
