“More: How to Move From Activity for God to Intimacy with God” by Greg Hawkins opened up my eyes to my relationship with God. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I received this book for review. The title intrigued me.
I discovered that I am between group 2 and group 3. At the beginning of my illness I realized that I didn’t have a deep relationship with Jesus. So I made a decision to remedy that problem in my life by diving into His word. When my father went through his colon cancer, he did the same thing. He was a wonderful example of having a relationship with Jesus.
Here are some things that I took away from reading Greg Hawkin’s book:
- There are 4 groups of believers in church. They are: group 1: I believe in God. But they are not sure about Jesus. My faith is not a significant part of my life.
Group 2: I have a relationship with Jesus and am working on getting to know him better.
Group 3: I feel very close to Jesus and depend on him daily for guidance.
Group 4: My relationship with Jesus is the most important relationship in my life. It influences everything I do.
- Surrendering to God doesn’t mean we will be crushed or controlled by him. It means we are letting go and letting God do his thing. Then you gain your life back.
- Breaking down the barriers between you and God means saying we instead of me. It requires not listening to the lies from Satan that says God is disgusted with you. It also requires being still and knowing God is God.
I need to do all of these things myself. I felt convicted reading this book. Not that this book makes one guilty or shamed filled. It just gives you a direction and tools to help you become group 4. Isn’t that what we are all striving for?
I recommend this book for those who want to start building a deeper and meaningful relationship with Jesus. It has great insight and tools to help you achieve trusting, being still and knowing, have a deeper faith in Jesus.
