I have seen Christine Caine numerous times on TBN and I always stop channel surfing when I see her speak. Unashamed is the first book that I have read by Caine. I was excited for the opportunity to read Unashamed. I devoured and felt edified while reading.
While reading I could hear Caine’s voice in my head talking to just me as I read her words. Shame runs rapid in us humans. It affects women and men. I can see how shame has affected me. This is a book to read, it is a book to savor, journal through, and discuss with the women in your life.
Reading, I felt a kinship with many of the women and herself on how shame entered our lives and how it destroys. While I am struggling with my health issues and my miraculous healing shame has entered in the picture a few times. I have had to pray and repent and work through those moments.
Here are some key things that popped out at me while reading:
- It is important to be active while renewing your mind. It isn’t just trusting in Jesus and not doing anything. It requires you to read his words, put on the armor of Jesus, it is changing the negative thoughts into positive ones, and any other tool that Jesus provides for you to use. Renewing your mind is a constant work in progress.
- Walls between you and God stop you from living. Figuring out what is holding you back from diving deeper into relationship with Jesus and following the purpose he has laid before you. When I read this chapter it reminded me of Heart Change when we did the walls segment of Heart Change. Where one person is a proxy for Jesus/God and you lay these bricks. All the things that are holding you back and you lay them up until there is a wall between you and Jesus. Then the person asks you are you ready to knock the walls down. Then you do it. It is a powerful exercise. I need to do this exercise again.
- Jesus presents gates for you to walk through. I know I have stopped myself a few times. Caine asks a poignant question. What is stopping you? This question has come at the perfect moment in my life. As I decided to allow shame to stop me from walking through the gate of health or do I stay where I am and where I had been.
- Allow God to permeate every crevice of your wounded soul and mind. Allow healing to happen. To move forward to a shame free life.
- Knowing the truth impacts the facts of our circumstances. In other words, Satan lies to us and God tells us the truth in who we are. I wrote down every scripture that Christine shared in this chapter. So that I am reminded that I have value and shame is not a part of the deal.
I love this book. I will reread and even share with the women in my life. I hope the women who read my blog will take the time to read Christine Caine’s Unashamed and also watch her on YouTube. She is a magnificent speaker. Thank you Christine for writing such a powerful book on shame and being courageous enough to share your story and letting God use you to help others.
I received a free E-book copy of Christine Caine’s book Unashamed from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. The opinions I express are my own.
