Perfect, what does that look like? Who knows? No one has every attained a perfect life. In Shauna Niequist’s book “Present Over Perfect” she takes us on her journey of slowing down and being more present in her life. She shares what she has learned. I love books like this. Her life was hectic, and finally she grew tired of it all, physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

Here are some things I took away from reading Present Over Perfect:

  • Being an adult is taking responsibility for resting your body and soul. Meeting your own needs, as well as your family needs.
  • Sometimes the fear of being labeled diva-ish or difficult causes one to become to flexible. In return causes you to become too exhausted, grumpy, and have no joy in your life.
  • You have to know that sometimes you get things wrong. We also have more authority than we think we have to change our lives.
  • In one’s life you will face the obstacle of disappointing someone. You get to decided who you’re going to say no to. It does get easier over time.
  • Other’s opinions of you mean nothing. What you think of yourself matters more.
  • Being still and knowing God helps you find healing in your life.

I hear all the time from my lady friends about them being too exhausted and putting self-care on the backburner. I hope each of my family and friends will take the opportunity to read Niequist’s book.

In exchange for my honest review I was given a free E-book version of Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist from Netgalley. My opinions are my own.
