One of my focus words this year was worship. Worship to me has a lot of negative connotations to it for me. I have seen many who worship God to hurt people and when someone doesn’t worship the way they do, they judge them. The truth is worship is deeply personal. It is between you and Jesus. If you happen to be worshiping at a church, a concert hall with thousands of people. It is still deeply personal.
I have come to the conclusion that there is no right way to worship God. Last night at Hillsong United Worship service at the Moda Center in Portland Oregon I watched people from all walks of life, some who are able to stand and wave their hands in dance and those who are in wheelchairs not able to dance and wave our hands worship God in our own way. God created us to do this. As long as our hearts are genuine, he delights in how we worship him.
Here are 4 of my favorite worship songs:
- Lauren Daigle: Come
- For King and Country: Fix My Eyes
- Hillsong United: Even When It Hurts
- U2: Psalms 40
I agree. Freedom of worship is a beautiful and personal thing. Jesus told us to worship in Spirit and in truth. Honest and Spirit-filled worship looks different on different people because that is how intimately Jesus loves us all…He knows we all do it differently. Anytime we are turning our attention on Jesus we are worshiping…and He is completely ravished by one glance of our eye!
