nurture

At the beginning of April I went to my local Dollar Tree. I was browsing through the books. I hadn’t been to the Dollar Tree in 7 years and I forgot that they had books there. I found two books that looked like great finds. Nurture by Lisa Bevere was one of them. I was surprised to find a Christian book at the Dollar Tree. Because if my memory serves me correct they get discarded books from book stores and sometimes they are not that great of finds. I felt deeply blessed by God to find Nurture.

I am a woman of faith. Lisa Bevere’s book takes you on a journey of what that means. We women were born to be nurturer’s and ever since the beginning of time when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden it’s been complicated. Bevere takes us on a journey through the complications. Exploring what being a nurturer is and how we all have an assignment along with the men in this big chaotic world.

While reading, I discovered a few key things that will help me on my own journey:

  1. God gave us intuition. God created in us women the deep knowing inside of our gut when something is not safe or wrong and when it is right. We should cultivate and listen to that voice.
  2. Cultivating our female relationships needs to be important. We need that connection. Stop comparing, stop judging, stop condemning each other and support each other through life’s overwhelming challenges.
  3. Creating a nurturing environment for our families and ourselves is key in a strong foundation. I have to admit, I need to create a nurturing environment for myself. I have no family, but in order to be inviting for the connections I want I have to cultivate my environment to support that desire.
  4. We all have a part, male and female in spreading God’s love to the world. It isn’t just on the men only, it’s on us too. Working together, as one to spread love, teach, encourage, strengthen each other and the travesties of life should be on our agenda.
  5. Sometimes God doesn’t fertilize our hopes, desires, and dreams right away. There are going to be long periods of stagnation, and infertility. That doesn’t mean we sit and cry about it, but we cultivate and pray, laugh, dance, and praise Jesus through it.

Check out Lisa Bevere on her website and Facebook page. This book is worth the time to read.
