Worship, what do you think of when you hear this word? For some reason I think negatively when I hear the word worship. I have visions of people rolling on the floor, screaming, crying, and acting strangely. That is what I envision when I think of the word worship. Is it the truth? No, it isn’t. Worship is supposed to be private. It is supposed to be between you and God. It isn’t for showboating. It isn’t for sharing with family, friends, or the community. It is a way of showing God how much you love him, appreciate him, and think he is amazing and all those magnificent feelings.
While reading Darlene Zschech’s book “Worship Changes Everything” I started changing my view point on worship. I started realizing I need to do more worshiping. Not that I am going to go and roll on the floor, screaming and singing at the top of my lungs. No one wants that. But I can listen to worship music while praying and singing to God in my private space. I can start worshiping God in my daily actions with how I react and interact with the world. When I react with kindness, love, and respect and leave out my ego I am worshiping God. Worshiping isn’t just about crying, getting emotional, or even singing. It is about a true display of affection and love with our actions towards each other. It is praying to God that isn’t showboating. It is saying just simply Thank You to God for the everyday small miracles that happen in our lives.
Thank you Zschech for giving me a new respect and perspective on worshiping God. I have decided that worship will be one of my focus words for 2016.
